We are delighted to be working with Norah McCorry and Paul Carville; compilers of the song and poetry book ‘Heart and Soul of the Montiaghs’, published through the Lurgan Townscape Heritage Scheme; with a local history and creative writing workshop programme which they have organised at schools in the area including St. Mary’s Derrytrasna, St. Patrick’s Aghacommon, and Lurgan Model Primary School.

As part of the project each school will be visited by guest historians who discuss buildings and places in the local area which are important or special. The pupils are then required to write a piece about what they have learned and places that are special place to them. Their final written pieces will then be gathered together into booklets which will be presented to the class at a special presentation.

Prizes of £20, £10 and £5 (from funds raised through the sale of the ‘Heart and Soul of the Montiaghs’ book) will be awarded for  the best written pieces  in each class. All children in the classes will also receive a certificate and a ‘goody bag’ to enjoy.

The project commenced in February 2024 and will conclude in May 2024.
