We were delighted to support Norah McCorry and Paul Carville; compilers of the song and poetry book ‘Heart and Soul of the Montiaghs’, published through the Lurgan Townscape Heritage Scheme; with a local history and creative writing workshop programme which they organised at schools in the area including St. Mary’s Derrytrasna, St. Patrick’s Aghacommon, and Lurgan Model Primary School.

As part of the project each school was visited by guest historians who discussed buildings and places in the local area which were important or special. The pupils were then required to write a piece about what they have learned and places that are special place to them. Their final written pieces were then gathered together into booklets which were presented to each class at a special presentation. You can view the booklets by clicking the following links:

Prizes of £20, £10 and £5 (from funds raised through the sale of the ‘Heart and Soul of the Montiaghs’ book) were awarded for  the best written pieces  in each class, with each child also receiving a certificate and a ‘goody bag’ to enjoy.

The project concluded in June 2024.
