VE Day 80: Digging for Victory

VE Day 80: Digging for Victory

As part of the 80th anniversary of VE Day we worked with the Mourneview Community Group, and the ecoclub in  King’s Park and Carick Primary Schools to establish VE day gardens.

During the programme the groups designated  some  raised beds as ‘Victory Gardens’ and planted some of the common flowers, fruits, herbs and  vegetables that were planted during wartime.

Along the way participants also got a chance to try a few of the creative wartime recipes that were developed to make the most of what was available during times of rationing.
