Digging Deeper into Kilmocholmóg: Results of the 2025 Community Dig

On Tuesday 26 May we were delighted to the join with the Craigavon Historical Society for a special evening at Gracehall, where archaeologist Katy McMonagle of the Northern Archaeological Consultancy revealed the results of the community excavation of Kilmocholmóg field which took place between 16 June to 4 July 2025.

Over 450 volunteer places were taken up as the community joined the Craigavon Historical Society and the archaeologists of the Northern Archaeological Consultancy to help them excavate the medieval site of Kilmocholmóg , located just off the Kilmore Road, Lurgan, as we looked for the remains of an early medieval church which is said to have stood here over 1000 years ago!

As it turned out the excavation revealed evidence of an early medieval settlement (AD 400-800) and much more as you will find out by viewing the film below:
