13 October: Shopfronts and Signage Workshop

On Thursday 13 October we were delighted to work in partnership with the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society (UAHS) to host a workshop focusing on best practice shopfront and façade design and maintenance at Brownlow House.

Attended by a mix of home owners, architects and professionals, the workshop included a hands-on demonstration with heritage joiner Jonathan Black of J.B. Heritage Joinery who provided practical tips on repairing and prolonging the lifespan of sash windows. John Byrne – Signability showcased the art of traditional hand signwriting and how it can enhance the appearance of shop fronts. While architect Ciara Young of Consarc Design Group provided an overview of her past work on the shutter removal and shopfront scheme in Upper English Street in Armagh as a best practice case study.

The day concluded with a tour of the Lurgan Conservation Area and key buildings within the town by Sebastian Graham of the UAHS and Tony Morgan of the Lurgan Townscape Heritage Scheme.

A big thank you to all our speakers and attendees for coming, and to the Ulster Architectural Heritage Society for organising a fun and insightful day.

This workshop complemented an internal building maintenance workshop which was organised by our colleagues in the Armagh City Townscape Heritage scheme.
