Geology in the Classroom at St. Francis Primary School

To tie in with the launch of our Geology and Built Heritage Walking Trail of Lurgan we delivered a new ‘Geology in the Classroom’ education programme to the primary 5 class of St. Francis Primary School.

In the first session the class paid a visit to Brownlow House,  where in an interactive session they were introduced to the the different rock types that can be found in the buildings of Lurgan and the differences between them. We then went a tour of the town to see if the class could identify the rock types we had discussed.

The class then had a closer look at rocks examining the geometry of crystals contained within in two sessions facilitated by artist Robert Peters, which resulted in the class building 3D models of the crystal forms. Have a look below at the results of their efforts!
