
Friday 30 May 2025: Writing Science Fiction: Worldbuilding with Ian McDonald
On Friday 30 May we supported the Lurgan Writing Club’s out of this world writing workshop in which award winning sci-fi writer Ian McDonald provided budding creative writers with the necessary skills to write and build convincing settings and worlds in their books. A great workshop that was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance.
About Ian McDonald:
Ian McDonald is an award-winning writer of science-fiction, fantasy and horror. He has published 24 novels in 11 languages and is a frequent guest on the international festival and convention circuit, including Cheltenham, Edinburgh, Etonnant Voyageurs in St Malo, New York Comicon and the Bangalore International Literary Festival. He has been nominated for many major awards in science fiction: The Hugo, The Nebula, the Arthur C Clarke, the BSFA, the Japanese Seiun, the Dietmar in Germany, the World Fantasy, and the Tiptree. He won the British Science Fiction Association best novel award in 2004 and 2011, short fiction in 1992, 2008 and 2019, the Theodore Sturgeon short fiction in 2001, the Philip K Dick best original paperback in 1992, and a short fiction Hugo in 2007. He is a member of the Society of Authors.
