Exploring Lurgan with the Lurgan Youth Annexe
During May and June 2021 we had had a lot of fun working with artist Hazel Boland and the Craigavon Historical Society in delivering a series of art and history workshops and a town tour to the lively members of the Lurgan Youth Annexe
Through the workshops we not only explored the past of Lurgan, but also the present and future as the children talked about the places that are important to them today which included green spaces, home and the Spar! Looking to the future the group would like to see a new swimming pool, a cinema and a luxury hotel in the town – perhaps a sign that more recreational facilities are required in Lurgan! We did get a glimpse of Lurgan’s new cinema and hotel, and a revamped Mechanics Institute, in our action packed modelmaking session which showcased the children’s creativity using recycled materials. As the photographs show, it was a great experience in which we all learned something new! Thank you to the Lurgan Youth Annexe again for having us.
