18 January 2023. Public Lecture: ‘Putting Migration into Lurgan History’

On 18 January we joined with the Friends of Shankill Graveyard to host a special talk which examined the migration patterns of emigrants from Lurgan and the wider County of Armagh from the 1600s through to the 1900, which was given by Dr Patrick Fitzgerald of the Mellon Centre for Migration Studies and took place at Brownlow House.

The presentation provided an insight into the reasons why people chose to leave the town, the influences behind their choice of destination and how this changed over time, and the stories and legacy of those who made the journey whether to Britain, America, Canada, Australia or New Zealand or elsewhere.
