End-terrace, two bay, two storey house, with attic, which was constructed in around 1890 to plans drawn by the famous Belfast architect firm of Young and Mackenzie under the instruction of John Long, who owned a plumbing and gas engineering business based at 45 William Street.

The house was first occupied by a William Eccles, who was also secretary of the Lurgan Gymnasium Club.  Other occupants included William Emerson, an insurance agent; Alfred Stokes, a ‘teeth specialist’, and Isabella Cartney. The Ripley family  then  occupied the house from 1911-1962.  Later the dwelling was converted to business use with Alan Brown (insurance broker) and Michael Purdy (accountant) among the tenants.

In recent years the property entered a period of dereliction. 51 William Street has since been designated a high priority project in the Lurgan Townscape Heritage Scheme.

Work commenced in August 2024. At the completion of works one 2 bedroomed apartment and a duplex 3 bedroom apartment will be created.
